A message from the photographer:

"Those of you familiar with these ridges may recognise Striding Edge, the Grade 1 scramble which ultimately leads to the pinnacle of Helvellyn, England's third-highest peak behind Scafell Pike and Sca Fell. I'm often in the Lake District having lived there for a short period - a magical location for landscape photographers like myself mostly because on any one day you can experience 4 season's worth of weather - tricky for deciding what to wear, but great for capturing photographs of scenes that are never the same twice

This was a summer day but, as is typical in the mountains, the conditions changed rapidly every 50 metres as we ascended. By the time we reached Striding Edge the wind was strong enough to knock us off our feet. Despite the company of a keen English Shepherd we decided that a dog, heavy camera bag and one newbie in the mountains probably wasn't the best combination for continuing and we sensibly stepped back. That's when I took this photograph. From the veritable warmth of 750m (Helvellyn is 950m above sea level) and with the reach of my zoom lens I was able to pinpoint this small group of 8 battling the elements just as they were about to head into what would have been some very cold cloud cover. Rather them than us that day."
